Six Lady Pioneers Reach Double Figures in Win at MEC-Leading WVWC

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team took down MEC first-place West Virginia Wesleyan, 99-84, to bring GSU in a tie for first place in the league standings on Saturday afternoon in Buckhannon.

The first quarter was back-and-forth throughout, as WVWC notched the first basket but an Ashlyn Riley three tied the game at four and Dejaan Schuler had five points in the first ten minutes as GSU led 24-22 at the end of one. The second quarter would see the Lady Pioneers jump out on a 6-to-nothing run after two jumpers from Kenyah Stubbs and a Stevi Yancy layup, however GSU could not capitalize on the run and went into the locker room with a four-point lead, 57-53.

The third quarter would be highly contested after both teams traded baskets all quarter with Schuler and Dream Cherry knocking down threes early and Jhakia Gist made a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the score 75-71 in favor of the Lady Pioneers going into the closing quarter. The fourth period belonged to the blue and white as they would build their lead after scores from Tynasia Bunting, Cherry, Gist and Nwando Okigbo, increasing the lead to 14 in the middle portion of the fourth quarter and GSU put the game on ice with good defense, winning by 15 with a score of 99-84.
