West Liberty, who is under new leadership this season, was tabbed 2nd with the final first-place vote and 88 points. Charleston slotted right in front of the Pioneers with 78 points while GSU had 77. The Pioneers went (17-13) overall and (10-10) in the MEC last season, finishing 6th in the regular season and upsetting Charleston in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Ammar Maxwell broke out as a true freshman in 2024-25, averaging 14.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 2.3 APG and 1.1 SPG with an All-MEC Second Team nod. Big man Prince Mosengo is also back for Bob Bolen as the former Akron transfer averaged 9.4 PPG and 8.2 RPG.

Bolen utilized the transfer portal and added quality high school prospects once again, including Central Missouri transfer and former MEC Freshman of the Year Jalen Knott. West Liberty transfer Garrison Kisner, Fairmont State transfer Callum Crossman, Longwood (D1) transfer Gavin Burns and junior college transfers Gavin Jackson (Garrett CC) and Joshua Vedrine (Calhoun CC) were also added to the mix.
