GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Football is coming off of a huge 19-13 double overtime road win at No. 21 Frostburg State last Saturday (Oct. 11) and are looking to push past .500 for the first time this season with Concord making the trip to Summersville for the Pioneers Homecoming game. GSU and the Mountain Lions meet Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1:30 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium and on the Mountain East Conference Digital Network. The contest is presented by GoMart.

2025 Season
The Mountain Lions come in (2-4, 1-3 MEC) and have lost their last two games, including last week's close 28-21 defeat at home against West Virginia State. Concord opened the season with a 37-29 win at UVA-Wise before eventually dropping four out of their next five contests.

Head Coach
Cody Edwards is in his first season leading the Concord Football program after spending the last four seasons at Western Carolina as the special teams coordinator (one season) and linebackers coach (three seasons). Edwards also had stints on both sides of the ball as coordinators at Tusculum and Keiser University as well.

Mountain Lions Offense
Wake Forest transfer Tyler Mizzell has been one of the nation's best quarterbacks for Concord this season, as the redshirt sophomore ranks 6th in the country (1st MEC) in passing yards per game at 309.3 YPG, 7th in the country (1st MEC) in passing yards with 1,856, 13th in DII (1st MEC) in passing TDs with 16 and he's tied for 1st in the league in passing completions with 118. Mizzell completes 57% of his passes (4th MEC) but has thrown seven interceptions (T-7th MEC).

The running game has been lackluster for Concord through six games, mainly for their high-powered passing offense, as their leading rusher, Rashad Luckey-Dowdy, has netted just 176 yards and one score on the season. Maurice Jones (159 yards) and Israel Rhodes (142 yards) have also been in the mix.

Concord's receiving core is one of the best statistically in the conference. Their leader, West Virginia transfer Dom Collins, currently ranks first in the MEC in receiving touchdowns (7) while being 2nd in the country and 1st in the MEC in receiving yards per game (115.8). His 579 receiving yards is 11th nationally and 2nd in the league with his 4.8 receptions per game also ranking 2nd in the MEC. He's also fourth in receptions at 24. Mizzell's second weapon, Limestone transfer Keyon Concepcion, is tied for 2nd in the league in receptions (25), tied for 3rd in receptions per game (4.2) and 6th in receiving yards (365). Que Moore has also been a reliable option for the CU offense, as he ranks T-5th in the MEC in receiving TDs (4) and 9th in receiving yards (315).

Mountain Lions Defense
The Mountain Lions defense is spearheaded by junior defensive back Nehamiah Scott and sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Ellison, who both rank in the top 10 in multiple MEC categories. Scott ranks 6th in the MEC in tackles (50) and tackles per game (8.2) while being T-6th in TFLs at 5.5. He also leads the league in pass breakups with eight and has recorded a sack. Ellison is right behind Scott in tackles with 49 (7th) and he's 5th in the league in tackles for loss with 6.0. Ellison has also blocked two kicks this season.

One of the conference's top defensive back rooms is strengthened by Corey Radcliff, who has a conference-leading five interceptions with four pass breakups and 25 total tackles. Ar-Terrian Godfrey has added two picks while Ean Ryans and Monroe Ingraham both have one on the season.

Mountain Lions Special Teams
Kenyon Bowyer is 2-of-3 on the year in field goals with a long of 30 yards while punter Zach Moyer has landed seven punts inside the 20 and boomed two over 50 yards with a long of 57. Kicker Adam Baraka is averaging over 41 yards each kickoff as well. Dom Collins also returns kickoffs for the Mountain Lions, averaging 23 yards per return.

The Pioneers enter the week (3-3, 2-1 MEC) following back-to-back big wins over Fairmont State and No. 21 Frostburg State. Glenville State has now won three out of their last four games after opening the season (0-2).

Pioneers Offense
Anthony Garrett is up to 10 touchdowns (5th MEC) on the year while completing 56.5% of his passes (5th MEC) and throwing for 1,575 yards (18th nationally, 2nd MEC) and 100 completions (3
rd MEC). The Detroit, Mich. native is also 2nd in the conference in passing yards per game at 262.5 YPG and has ran for 164 yards and two scores on the ground.

Jeremiah King is coming off of another 100-yard performance at Frostburg State, where the redshirt sophomore ran the ball 23 times and scored the game-winning touchdown in double overtime to earn MEC Offensive Player of the Week. King ranks 3rd in the MEC in rushing yards (500), rushing yards per game (83.3) and rushing touchdowns (5) while leading the league in rushing attempts with 124. Since taking over as RB2,
Graylan Holland has added a nice pace for the Pioneer offense, totaling 226 yards and two touchdowns on 41 rushes.

The Pioneers feature three receivers in the top 15 of the MEC in receiving yards and four in the top 20, led by senior
Naseem Pacheco, who ranks 8th in the MEC in receiving yards (326), T-5th in receptions (23) and receptions per game (3.8) while adding two scores.
Arnav Thornhill is 14th in the league in receiving yards with 245 on eight catches as the former Presbyterian transfer ranks 2nd in the MEC in average yards per catch (30.6). Following a six catch, 116-yard day at Frostburg State,
Tariq Meredith has risen to 15th in the conference in receiving yards with 244 and 13th in receptions with 17.

Pioneers Defense
Brandon Penn continues to be the leader defensively for the Pioneers as the redshirt senior recorded another 10 tackles at Frostburg State to boost himself up to 62 total tackles this season, which is 11th nationally and first in the Mountain East Conference. His 10.3 tackles per game is also 11th nationally and first in the MEC while his 43 solo stops ranks 1st in all of DII.
Sean Scott notched 12 tackles to earn MEC Defensive Player of the Week as the senior is now up to 44 tackles, 2.5 TFL and four pass breakups.
Shary Jefferson leads the team in tackles for loss with 4.5 while adding 32 tackles and a QB hurry.

Kalon Curry (25 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 1 FR) and
Eugene Allen (23 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 5 QB hurries, 1 FR) have been vital in the Pioneers recent defensive success. In the backend,
Kaevon Blanding has six pass breakups with Scott adding four and Elias Jeffry Ofosu now up to three after making his first start at corner last week.Â

Brody Layman leads the conference in field goals made (7), attempts (8), field goal percentage (87.5%) and field goals made per game (1.2).
Johann Villasenor makes his return to Nicholas County with an average of 44.7 yards per kickoff on 27 attempts and one touchback. Punter
Zander Watson has now landed eight punts inside the 20 (3rd MEC) with a long of 59 yards (2nd MEC).Â
