Preview: Volleyball Lined Up for Final Week of Regular Season

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball enters the last week of regular season in a tie for the final MEC Tournament spot. The Pioneers are tied with Frostburg State at four MEC wins apiece, however, if both teams are tied at the end of the week, FSU owns the tiebreaker. GSU heads to Charleston on Tuesday (Nov. 11) and will host Concord for Senior Night on Friday (Nov. 14), both starting at 7 p.m.

THE OPPONENTS
CHARLESTON
2025 Season
The Golden Eagles are (19-11) overall and (10-3) MEC with a (9-3) record on their home floor. Charleston won the first meeting between the two squads on Oct. 10, 3-0, in Glenville. UC is also riding a three-game winning streak.

Quick Look at The Golden Eagles
Sophia Knowles leads the team with 228 kills while Patrycja Majos is right behind Knowles for the team lead with 223. Abby Avila has 824 assists, which ranks her first in the conference by over 150 assists. Defensively, Chloe Fortner has 378 digs (4th MEC) and Kate Strong has 94 blocks (6th MEC).

CONCORD
2025 Season
Concord is (19-7) overall and (7-6) in league play with a (6-4) tab on the road this season. CU beat the Pioneers in Athens on Oct. 14, 3-0, in three tightly contested sets. The Mountain Lions have been on a slide recently, coming into the week with a six game losing streak (last win came on Oct. 21).

Meg Williams' 283 kills is good enough for fourth-best in the conference while Chloe Thompson has 264. Their setter, Paige Richmond, has 546 assists, which ranks her 4th in the MEC. On defense, Allie Davis has 454 digs (2nd MEC) and Jasmine Anderson has 104 blocks on the year, ranking her 5th in the league.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE

2025 Season
Entering the week at (12-16) overall and (4-9) in conference play, the Pioneers are looking to get a win to propel them into the postseason. GSU is (2-2) in their last four games after hitting a mid-season skid.

Offensively, they are led by Kaiya Lian with 211 kills as Rita Kelly has 170 and Keleigh Chrisman is putting together a nice sophomore season with 168. As a setter, Sadie Hill has 364 assists and Elitsa Peneva has 327. Defensively, Mikayla Curry has 70 blocks, Deniz Selen Yazar has 55, and Ava O'Hare has 315 digs to lead the team.
