BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball bowed out of the MEC Tournament in Quarterfinal play against West Virginia Wesleyan in four sets on Thursday (Nov. 20) night. The Pioneers season comes to an end at (13-18) overall.
WVWC raced out to an early lead in set one, but GSU would bounce back to take a 10-8 lead after a Rita Kelly kill. From there, the Bobcats took control of the set and eventually held on to win, 25-23, to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Glenville State would jump out to a 12-6 lead in set two, but WVWC answered to tie the game at 15. The Pioneers then scored three out of the last four points to take the set, 28-26, and tie the match, 1-1. In the third set, Glenville State would hold an early 8-4 lead after a Kaiya Lian kill, but the Bobcats went on a run to gain control of the set and a kill from Bhrooke Axe gave the home team a one point lead late. WVWC wouldn't let GSU back into the set, winning the stanza, 25-22, and taking a 2-1 lead in the match. In the final set of the season for the blue and white, they showed resiliency and fought like they had all year, taking a two point lead at 16-14 after a Deniz Selen Yazar kill. The number one seeded Bobcats showed their prowess by winning five out of the final six points to advance, winning the third set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

Emily Dennison led the Bobcat attack, recording 23 kills, while Bhrooke Axe had 16 and Claire Wheeler had 28 assists to lead the team. On defense, Dennison had four blocks and Axe had two with Alexis Moeschler notching 15 digs.
Glenville State
Kaiya Lian paced the attack with 12 kills while Rita Kelly had 11 and Mikayla Curry had ten. The leading setter was Sadie Hill with 20 assists and Elitsa Peneva chipped in 19. Defensively, Greta Petofi had six blocks to lead the team and Cali Queen led the team in digs with 16.
