THE OPPONENT
BLUEFIELD STATE
2024-25 Season
Bluefield State is coming off an outstanding (19-12) season in 2024-25 under their former head coach, finishing as the CIAA Southern Division No. 1 seed and reaching the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament. That success helped propel the previous staff to new opportunities, leading to a coaching change in the offseason.

New Era for The Big Blue
Bluefield State now begins the 2025-26 campaign under new head coach Luke D'Alessio, a veteran with more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience. This season marks his first on the Bluefield State sideline after successful stints at Bowie State, Loyola, Siena, Fayetteville State, and North Carolina Central.
D'Alessio inherits a roster with several key returners:

  • Anthony Davenport (14.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG) – Early-season leader and team's top option

  • Myles Pierre (11.3 PPG) – Experienced guard and primary perimeter scorer

  • Pharaoh Lassiter (6.7 PPG) – Athletic wing

  • Anthony Latty (6.7 PPG, 91% FG) – High-efficiency interior presence

  • Sila Tako (4.3 PPG, 4.0 RPG) – Frontcourt depth

Bluefield State enters Friday at (0-3), with all contests on the road to open the season.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE

2024-25 Season

Quick Look at The Pioneers
GSU sits at (1-1) through two games, falling in an overtime battle with Claflin before earning a convincing win over Livingstone. The Pioneers have shown strong balance through their first weekend:

  • Elijah Redfern (21.5 PPG, 50% 3PT) – Off to a scorching start as the team's leading scorer

  • Prince Mosengo (16.5 PPG, 13.0 RPG) – Dominant on the glass early

  • Jalen Knott (11.5 PPG) – Veteran guard adding steady offense

  • Ammar Maxwell (9.5 PPG) – Efficient scoring before early foul trouble vs. Livingstone

  • Rye Gadd (7.5 PPG) – Major spark off the bench last game

With depth at all positions and contributions from multiple transfers, head coach Bob Bolen is encouraged by this group's early chemistry and toughness.
