Preview: Men’s Basketball Travels to Slippery Rock for Non-Conference Test

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Men's Basketball hits the road for the final time before MEC play begins, traveling to Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, to take on Slippery Rock University tomorrow (Nov. 25) at 5 p.m. inside Morrow Field House. The Pioneers enter at 2-1 following back-to-back wins, while The Rock stands at (3-1) after a narrow loss at No. 5 Fairmont State.

THE OPPONENT 
SLIPPERY ROCK (3–1, 0–0 PSAC) 
2024–25 Season 
Slippery Rock finished last season (15-14) overall and (11–9) in the PSAC, reaching the PSAC Tournament before falling by two points to IUP in the opening round. The Rock picked up quality wins throughout league play, including victories over Indiana (Pa.), Pitt-Johnstown and Bloomsburg. 

2025–26 Season
Slippery Rock has opened this season strong, winning three straight home games before dropping a 93-89 battle at No. 5 Fairmont State. The Rock averages 89.0 points per game while shooting 48% from the field and an impressive 71.6% at the foul line. 

Quick Look at The Rock 
Slippery Rock's attack is balanced and efficient: 

  • Dame Givner (15.8 PPG, 4.5 APG) – Floor general who leads the team in scoring and assists. 

  • Ike Herster (14.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG) – A high-usage scorer shooting 43% from the floor. 

  • Elijah Hill (10.3 PPG, 5.5 RPG) – Impactful forward shooting nearly 70%. 

  • Isaac James (10.0 PPG, 9.0 RPG) – One of the most active rebounders in the PSAC. 

  • RJ Sledge (9.3 PPG) – Provides perimeter scoring and energy off the bench. 

As a team, SRU scores in bunches, rebounds at a high rate (44.5 RPG), and has nine players averaging five or more points. 

THE PIONEERS

2024–25 Season 
The Pioneers posted a (17-13, 10-10 MEC) a year ago and reached the MEC Tournament Semifinals. GSU's roster returned multiple key pieces and was picked fourth in the 2025–26 MEC Preseason Poll—its highest projection since joining the MEC. 

2025–26 Season So Far 
Glenville State has bounced back from a season-opening overtime loss by defeating Livingstone and edging Bluefield State, 68-67. The Pioneers are averaging 78.0 points, shooting 43% from the field and hitting 36% from three. 

Quick Look at The Pioneers 
Early-season production has been driven by GSU's experienced core: 

  • Elijah Redfern (17.7 PPG, 52.9% 3PT) – Scored 53 points across the first three games. 

  • Prince Mosengo (15.3 PPG, 10.3 RPG) – Averaging a double-double; elite efficiency around the rim. 

  • Jalen Knott (14.0 PPG, team-high 3.7 APG) – Glenville's primary playmaker who leads the team in minutes. 

  • Ammar Maxwell (11.7 PPG, 66.7% FG) – Has hit every three-pointer he's attempted this season (5-for-5). 

Off the bench, Rye Gadd has added a strong scoring punch (7.3 PPG), while Callum Crossman and Corey Boulden continue to provide size and spacing. Tuesday marks GSU's second road contest of the season and final tune-up before entering MEC competition.
