SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team fell 92-81 on Tuesday (Nov. 25) evening at Slippery Rock inside Morrow Field House. The Pioneers had five players score in double figures and jumped out to an early lead, but The Rock used a big bench effort and a strong night at the free throw line to pull away late. GSU moves to (2-2) on the season in non-conference play.
1st Half
Glenville State came out hot from deep, opening on a 6-0 run with back-to-back threes from Don Colon-Lewis and Elijah Redfern. A transition layup from Jalen Knott and another triple from the senior guard helped the Pioneers build a 16-9 advantage just over four minutes in.
Slippery Rock answered behind its depth. Guard RJ Sledge came off the bench to spark the hosts, knocking down a three and converting at the line during a stretch that turned a 22-16 GSU lead into a 31-22 Rock advantage. Redfern and Ammar Maxwell responded with drives to the rim to keep Glenville within striking distance, but a late push highlighted by Isaac James at the stripe sent Slippery Rock to the locker room ahead 46-38.
2nd Half
The Pioneers made their move early in the second half. A three from Rye Gadd and another from Colon-Lewis trimmed the deficit to 50-44, and a pair of baskets in the paint from Maxwell pulled GSU within two at 50-48 with just under 14 minutes remaining.
From there, Slippery Rock had an answer for every Glenville State run. Sledge and Brady Mayo combined for a series of threes and drives that stretched the margin back to double figures, while James continued to control the glass. Corey Boulden buried a three from the wing and Prince Mosengo scored multiple times inside to keep the Pioneers in range, but The Rock built the lead as high as 17 in the closing minutes. A late three from Colon-Lewis, a deep ball from Maxwell, and a transition dunk from Mosengo cut into the margin, but GSU ultimately fell, 92-81.
