Preview: Volleyball Set for Pivotal MEC Matchups with WVSU & WVWC

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball begins November with two pivotal conference matchups this week. The Pioneers will be on the road Tuesday (Nov. 4) evening to face West Virginia State and will host West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (Nov. 7) night. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.

THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2025 Season
The Yellow Jackets are (12-11) overall and (6-5) in the MEC with a (6-4) record at home this season. WVSU won the earlier season matchup with the Pioneers in Glenville, 3-0.

Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
The offensive attack is led by Alyssa Hill, who is first on the team with 254 kills while Carmen Perez has been another threat with 216. Setter Kelsey Mckeehan has enjoyed a powerful hitting group, totaling 459 assists thus far. On defense, Lilly Adkins has 378 digs and Nicole Gartner Custodio has 124 blocks, both in the top three of the MEC in their respective categories.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
2025 Season
The Bobcats are (15-8) overall and (7-4) in league play, while being (4-2) on the road in 2025. The Bobcats and Pioneers have split this season, as GSU took the first matchup, 3-2, in a non-conference bout in Glenville before WVWC swept Glenville State in Buckhannon last month.

Quick Look at The Bobcats
Bhrooke Axe has led WVWC all season offensively, notching 280 kills while MacKenna Halfin has 255 to tightly contest the team lead. Claire Wheeler has 470 assists, which is seventh-best in the MEC. Defensively, Alexis Moeschler has 295 digs and Emily Dennison has 63 blocks to lead the Bobcats.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE

2025 Season
GSU is (12-14) overall and (4-7) in Mountain East Conference action and are coming off two consecutive league wins against Davis & Elkins (3-0) and Frostburg State (3-1).

Quick Look at The Pioneers
Kaiya Lian was Pioneer Athlete of the Week for her performance last week and she currently leads the team in kills with 194 while Mikayla Curry has 153 and Rita Kelly has 152. Sadie Hill leads the Pioneers in assists with 320 as Elitsa Peneva has been a viable second option with 294. On defense, a lot of the digs are coming from true freshman as Cali Queen has 279 and Ava O'Hare has 277. Curry is an active defender as well for GSU, leading the team in blocks with 69.
