Lady Pioneers Knock Off No. 15 Fairmont State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Women's Basketabll team downed top 15 Fairmont State at home on Wednesday (Dec. 10) night, 77-74. With the win, GSU improves to (5-2, 2-1 MEC) on the young season.

1st Half
Glenville State fell behind in the first quarter as they only scored 14 points, and FSU closed the first on a 13-2 run to build an early 22-14 lead. In the second, the Lady Pioneer defense stood tall, only allowing nine Falcon points. With scores from Ashlyn Riley, Nwando Okigbo, and Nylah Davis, GSU took a three-point lead into halftime, 34-31.

2nd Half
In the third quarter, Glenville State pushed their lead to 12 behind good shooting from Jayda Allie and Payton James, with both making three-point shots. In the fourth, Stevi Yancy started off the scoring with a layup, but FSU would cut the lead to four with a minute remaining. However, a free throw form Okigbo and a missed three pointer at the buzzer by the Falcons gave the Lady Pioneers the nationally ranked victory, 77-74.

Fairmont State
Haylen Cook led the team with 17 points and nine rebounds while Alanna Tate had 16 points. Gabby Reep and Mackenzie Swayne both had 11 points in the defeat.

Glenville State
Ashlyn Riley led the Lady Pioneer attack with 17 points and five assists. Stevi Yancy had 15 points and five assists while Nwando Okigbo had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Nylah Davis had nine points and Payton James connected on three three-pointers in the win.

Glenville State will take on Frostburg State on Saturday (Dec. 13) in Frostburg. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
