Preview: Davis & Elkins, West Virginia Wesleyan on Deck for Lady Pioneers

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers will look to keep the momentum going from their last performance as they have two conference matchups this week with one being against a team behind them in the league standings and one team that is in front of them. GSU will travel to Davis and Elkins on Wednesday (Feb. 12) to take on the Senators and tip is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the McDonnell Center. Saturday, the Lady Pioneers will return home for Winter Homecoming and will welcome the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan into the Waco Center. The game is set for an earlier-than-usual 1 p.m. start.

THE OPPONENTS
DAVIS & ELKINS
2024-25 Season
D&E has played to a (2-19) overall record with a (1-13) MEC mark and are coming off a 28-point loss against Wheeling.

Head Coach
Donna Carr is in her third season as HC of the D&E Women's Basketball program. Carr won two games in 2023-24 and seven games during her first season in 2022-23. She came to D&E following a two-year stint at Hillsborough CC in Tampa, Fla.

Quick Look at The Senators
Jahniya Marion is the Senators leading scorer as she averages 9.9 points per game while attempting the most shots on the team by a wide margin and is shooting 30% from the floor. Josiany Canales is scoring around 7.0 PPG while averaging five rebounds per game. Jackie Wright is averaging 6.3 PPG and grabs a team high 5.3 rebounds per game.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
2024-25 Season
The Bobcats come into this week with a (16-5 overall) record and (10-4) conference mark. The Bobcats currently hold a six-game winning streak.

Head Coach
Brett Vincent is in his fourth season leading the WVWC Women's Basketball program. The Bobcats have upped their win total every season under Vincent, winning their most games under his tutelage last year with 10 victories. Vincent previously coached at Chowan for nine seasons as the men's head coach, holding the most wins all-time as a HC.

Emma Witt is leading the team in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per contest and shooting at an almost 50 percent clip from the floor while grabbing over five boards per game. Sydney Baird averages 13.2 points per game and is shooting the three-ball well at 35% while Shelby Genes is scoring 11.2 points per game and has recorded 35 steals on the year. Lojain Elfatairy is shooting 40% from beyond the arc and averaging just over 10 points per game.

2024-25 Season
Currently (14-8) overall and (8-6) in conference play, the Lady Pioneers are looking to make a push as they head down the stretch of their season.

Quick Look at The Lady Pioneers
Tynasia Bunting is leading HC Emily Stoller's squad with 14.4 points a game and grabbing 6.1 rebounds while recording 38 steals and six blocks ion the year. Nwando Okigbo is scoring 12.3 points per game and is grabbing a team-high 10.9 rebounds per game and has blocked 18 shots on the year. Dream Cherry has been the team's sharpshooter all year as she's made 51 shots from long-range and is averaging 12 points a game while also dishing out 48 assists on the year. Jade Salters is scoring 7.5 PP with almost five rebounds per game and has a team-high 42 steals on the year. Other contributors include Ashlyn Riley (6.9 PPG) Stevi Yancy (6.6 PPG) and Kenyah Stubbs (6.6 PPG).
