Natalie Barr Named Female Pioneer of the Week; Zac Bayor, Ammar Maxwell, Nick Pitchford Share Male Pioneer of the Week presented by GoMart

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State athlete Natalie Barr is the Female Pioneer of the Week while a plethora of male Pioneers shined this week. Zac Bayor, Ammar Maxwell and Nick Pitchford are the Male Co-Pioneers of the Week presented by GoMart.

Barr, a sophomore from Canvas, W.Va., broke the school record in the 800m run at the Marshall Invite this past weekend with a time of 2:15.56. Barr was the highest-placing MEC runner as the three runners in front of her were D1. In total, Barr defeated 11 Division 1 runners.

Bayor, a senior from Lakeland Ranch, Fla., helped lead the Pioneers to a series win over Clarion this past weekend, going 5-for-10 with 2 HR, 1 double and 5 RBIs. He also walked three times and scored three runs. He had multiple 2+ hit performances with two hits in game one and three in game two while having 2 RBI in game one, 2 RBI (including game-tying HR in the bottom of the 7th) in game two and 1 RBI in the series clinching game three.

Maxwell, a true freshman from Beckley, W.Va., averaged 23 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 3.0 SPG and 2.5 APG while shooting 60% from the field in wins over D&E and WVWC this week. Maxwell posted 23 points in both contests, adding four steals, three rebounds, two assists and 8-11 FG / 3-3 3PT FG shooting against Davis & Elkins. Against WVWC, he added four rebounds, three assists, two steals while shooting 7-14 from the field and 9-11 from the free throw line.

Pitchford, a true freshman from Eleanor, W.Va., broke two school records this weekend at Marshall in 1-mile run (4:13.78) and the 800m run (1:54.67), crushing a 13-year record in the 800. Pitchford placed 2nd in the 1-mile run, only finishing behind a D1 runner while beating seven D1 runners from Ohio, Marshall and Morehead State. He placed 3rd in the 800m run, only behind two D1 runners and beating nine D1 athletes.
