BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Glenville State Indoor Track & Field athletes
Natalie Barr and
Nick Pitchford have swept the Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week awards, the league announced. The weekly awards are presented by
The Health Plan.
Barr, a sophomore from Canvas, W.Va., broke the school record in the 800m run at the Marshall Invite this past weekend with a time of 2:15.56. Barr was the highest-placing MEC runner as the three runners in front of her were D1. In total, Barr defeated 11 Division 1 runners.
Pitchford, a true freshman from Eleanor, W.Va., broke two school records this weekend at Marshall in 1-mile run (4:13.78) and the 800m run (1:54.67), crushing a 13-year record in the 800. Pitchford placed 2nd in the 1-mile run, only finishing behind a D1 runner while beating seven D1 runners from Ohio, Marshall and Morehead State. He placed 3rd in the 800m run, only behind two D1 runners and beating nine D1 athletes.
