GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach
Dan Meyers has announced the hiring of Zack Marcum as an Assistant Track & Field Coach.
Marcum, a native of Madison, W.Va., comes to Glenville State after a one-year stint at Lenoir-Rhyne (DII) as the program's men's and women's assistant coach. In his one year with the Bears, Marcum coached both the indoor and outdoor teams, helping develop nine All-Americans, 200m indoor national champion, 100m and 200m outdoor national champion and 11 qualifiers for the NCAA DII National Championships.
Coach Meyers noted that "Coach Marcum is our top recruit for next year's class, he will be a relentless recruiter and help immensely with the development of our sprinters and hurdlers. His addition to our staff will help us reach our goals in the MEC."
He ran collegiately at the University of Charleston from 2015-2019, becoming the 2017 MEC Athlete of the Year with a 400m dash and 4x400m relay conference championship. That same year, he placed 2
nd in the 200m finals but ran the fastest 200m dash in conference history in the prelims at 21.40. During his junior and senior year, Marcum and the Golden Eagles went on to win back-to-back team MEC Championships. In addition to his conference success, he provisionally qualified for Nationals three years in a row during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Marcum was a 2015 graduate of Scott High School, where he captured Class AA State Championships in the 200m and 400m dash.
"I am bringing these experiences and knowledge to Glenville State University to grow our program into one who competes at the highest level in track and field," said Marcum.
