Pioneers Drop Two at Lock Haven Tournament

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Glenville State Volleyball team completed the first two games of the Lock Haven tournament earlier this evening, falling to Lock Haven, 3-0, and Bloomsburg, 3-1. 

Game One - GSU 0 | Lock Haven 3
GSU raced out to an early 9-5 lead and held the lead late in the set, 24-22, however LHU scored five out of the last six points to take set one 27-25. In set two, GSU held the lead once again, this time at 11-10 after a Mikayla Curry kill, but the Bald Eagles would go on a seven-to-nothing run, taking control of the stanza and winning set two, 25-15. Set three saw the Pioneers trailing most of the set and could not stop the Lock Haven momentum, falling 25-16, and losing the match, 3-0.

Madelyn Mitchell led the team on offense with 13 kills while Gracelynn Wolzen chipped in with nine and Madelyn Wagner had 29 assists to pace the Bald Eagles. Defensively, Lola Coulter had three blocks with Natalie Acevedo notching 16 digs.

Glenville State
Rita Kelly and Kaiya Lian led the team in kills with five each while Deniz Selen Yazar and Mikayla Curry both had four. Sadie Hill and Irmak Bezek both had nine assists as well. On defense, Selen Yazar had three blocks and Ava O'Hare had a team-leading 13 digs.

Game Two - GSU 1 | Bloomsburg 3
GSU controlled set one from the open, building as much as a 14-point lead at one point after a Greta Petofi kill and would win the first set by a score of 25-11. Set two would be back-and-forth throughout the early stages but a run by the Huskies put the set out of reach, winning 25-21 and tying the match at one. In set three, BU held the lead early, but the Pioneers climbed back into the set, cutting the deficit to two after a Malerie Ross kill, however, the Huskies would close out the set, winning 25-18. In set four, GSU held an early lead before Bloomsburg had two separate six-to-nothing runs to close out the set, 25-13, and win the match, 3-1.

Emily Gustie had 16 kills to lead the Huskies while Erin Clark had 19 assists and Jessica Rimbo chipped in 15. On defense, Katie Kuehl had three blocks with Hannah Robson recording 11 digs and Gustie adding 10.

Glenville State
Greta Petofi and Mikayla Curry led the Pioneer offense with seven kills each while Cali Queen, Rita Kelly and Kaiya Lian all had four. Sadie Hill had 14 assists as Elitsa Peneva was not too far behind wiht 10. Defensively, Curry and Petofi had two blocks while Ava O'Hare had 11 digs and Queen had eight.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers turn around quickly to take on Goldey-Beacom at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Sept. 20) morning to close out the LHU Tournament.
