Honorary Captains Announced for GSU Football vs Charleston

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Football has announced their three Honorary Captains for tomorrow's (Sept. 27) conference opener versus the Unviersity of Charleston at County Stadium in Spencer, W.Va.

It will be a true Roane County tribute as Terry Kendall, Jerry Milliken and Fred Taylor will be led out by Kate Gainer, a former GSU Softball player, and Dylan Cottrell, Glenville State's Wrestling coach.

TERRY KENDALL
Spencer Class of 1980 and Glenville Class of 1984 - Kendall was a star football player and wrestler at Spencer High and is in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. At Glenville, Kendall was captain on Glenville's legendary 1983 defense that only allowed 84 points. Kendall was a multiple First-Team AllConference performer and was elected to the Glenville State Hall of Fame.

JERRY MILLIKEN
Coach Milliken played baseball at WVU, before embarking on a successful coaching career at Glenville State. He served as head coach for both baseball and track, and propelled the GSU track to multiple WVIAC Championships. He was an assistant for the Pioneer football program and was on the coaching staff of the 1973 National Runner-Up team. He has lived in Roane County for over four decades.

FRED TAYLOR
Walton High School Class of 1956 and Glenville Class of 1960. He was a multi-sport star at Walton, and was a four-year starter in football at Glenville. He was an All-Conference safety on the 1958 Championship team, and as a two-way player, was starting quarterback on the 1959 team. He produced a Hall of Fame career as head coach at Ravenswood High School for 31 years. He won 209 games and coached 36 First Team All-State players, leading the Red Devils to the State Championship in both 1972 and 1976.
