LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Glenville State Football team produced 413 yards of total offense but had just thirteen points to show for it in their 16-13 defeat at Lock Haven tonight. The Pioneers fall to (0-2) on the young season.
1st Quarter
Lock Haven opened the game with a steady drive but a fourth down stop by the Pioneers put the ball in the offense's hands. After consecutive three-and-outs by both squads, GSU had their drive put on stop on a failed fourth down conversion attempt near the redzone. The Bald Eagles then answered back with a 23-yard run and a 44-yard rushing touchdown by Damir Green to put the first points on the board. They missed the extra point, making it 6-0 after one.
2nd Quarter
LHU put together another promising drive out of the break, however,
Tank Gant and
Kaevon Blanding stayed strong in run defense to force Lock Haven to settle for three points. After another drive that saw the Pioneers nearly make the redzone come to a halt on a failed fourth down conversion, the Bald Ealges came back with another touchdown drive to stretch their lead to 16-0. At the end of the half, the Pioneers got three tries to connect on a hail mary to the endzone and
Anthony Garrett took full advantage, finding
Naseem Pacheco as time expired to trim the deficit to 16-6 heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter
The Pioneer offense was rolling out of the half but a costly fumble at the three-yard line gave Lock Haven the ball 97 yards away from their endzone. Lock Haven moved the ball well before
Jaiden McLendon Parker intercepted Ostrowsky's pass and got an extra 32 yards on the return. With good field position, quarterback
Anthony Garrett found
Kordell Lewis for a score from 18 yards out to make it 16-13.
4th Quarter
Glenville State pieced together a six-plus minute drive all the way down to the 14 on a healthy mix of running from
Jeremiah King,
Graylan Holland and
Anthony Garrett. LHU forced a fourth down and the Pioneers couldn't convert, missing the field goal from 31 yards out. The Pioneer defense put the ball back in the offense's hands but it a fourth down failed conversion allowed Lock Haven to eventually drain the clock on a first down that sealed the deal.
