THE OPPONENTS
WEST LIBERTY (10–3, 5–1 MEC)
2025–26 Season
West Liberty enters the week as one of the Mountain East Conference's most dangerous teams, posting a (10–3) overall record and a (5–1) mark in league play. The Hilltoppers continue to play at one of the fastest tempos in Division II, averaging 96.7 points per game with a scoring margin of +15.3. Their aggressive style has translated into wins both at home and on the road, with West Liberty remaining undefeated inside the ASRC this season. The Hilltoppers force turnovers at an elite rate and consistently convert defense into offense, making them a constant threat to break games open in short stretches.
Quick Look at The Hilltoppers
West Liberty's system is built on relentless pressure, ball movement, and depth. The Hilltoppers average 18.3 assists per game while forcing opponents into 22.5 turnovers per contest, leading to nearly 28 points off turnovers per game. Multiple players average double figures, allowing West Liberty to spread the floor with shooting (10.1 threes per game) while still attacking downhill in transition. Their ability to rotate bodies without sacrificing pace makes them one of the most difficult matchups in the MEC, particularly at home where momentum builds quickly.
WHEELING (9–4, 5–2 MEC)
2025–26 Season
Wheeling enters Saturday's matchup at (9–4) overall and (5–2) in conference play, establishing itself as a balanced and physical contender in the MEC. The Cardinals average 85.4 points per game while holding opponents to just over 80 points per contest. They have been effective on both ends of the floor, pairing efficient shooting with active defense and strong interior play. Wheeling's ability to protect the ball and win the turnover battle has been a major factor in its success through the first half of the season.
Quick Look at The Cardinals
Wheeling is led by a veteran-heavy lineup that thrives on physicality and control. Ayden Goll anchors the offense, averaging 17.8 points per game, while Caleb Murray and Tee Harris Jr. provide consistent scoring and rebounding across the lineup. Defensively, the Cardinals are active around the rim, averaging 4.3 blocks per game, and force mistakes with nearly 10 steals per contest. Wheeling's system emphasizes half-court execution, rebounding, and defensive discipline, making them especially dangerous in close games.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE (9–5, 4–3 MEC)
2025–26 Season
Glenville State enters the week playing its best basketball of the season, riding a five-game winning streak and surging into the heart of MEC play at (9–5) overall and (4–3) in conference action. Wednesday's matchup also presents a rare opportunity: a chance to defeat West Liberty for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Pioneers average 87.4 points per game, shoot 46.2% from the field, and rank among the league's top perimeter teams at 37.6% from three-point range. Glenville has been especially strong during its recent stretch, showing improved defensive execution, ball movement, and depth as it pushes toward the upper tier of the conference standings.
Quick Look at the Pioneers
Glenville State's offense is driven by balance and versatility. Jalen Knott leads the team at 18.4 points per game, serving as both a scorer and facilitator, while Elijah Redfern adds 16.9 points per contest with efficient perimeter shooting. Inside, Prince Mosengo provides a physical presence with 13.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, anchoring the paint on both ends. Don Colon-Lewis and Ammar Maxwell round out a core that contributes across scoring, rebounding, and defense. Glenville's system thrives when the ball moves, the floor is spaced, and transition opportunities are created—elements that have fueled the current win streak and set the stage for a pivotal week.
