THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE (5–11, 2–7 MEC)
2025–26 Season
West Virginia State's record may not jump off the page, but the Yellow Jackets have proven they can score with anyone on a given night. WVSU averages 81.8 points per game, leaning heavily on offensive pace and free-throw production to stay competitive. Nearly 18 points per game at the line has helped offset shooting inconsistencies, while their home record shows they are far more dangerous in Institute than on the road. Despite the struggles in league play, West Virginia State has already shown it can rise up in conference games, including close finishes and stretches where their offense can overwhelm opponents quickly.
Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets are led by a group that attacks the basket relentlessly. Trey Harris headlines the scoring, capable of taking over stretches offensively. Aymeric Toussaint provides interior efficiency, shooting nearly 60% from the floor, while Hassan Belkhaddar controls the glass with nearly seven rebounds per game. Defensively, WVSU blocks shots at a strong rate, averaging 4.5 blocks per contest, which can disrupt rhythm if Glenville settles too much in the paint. Limiting free throws and controlling tempo will be key against a team that thrives when games become physical and fast.
CONCORD (10–5, 7–2 MEC)
2025–26 Season
Concord has quietly emerged as one of the MEC's most complete teams. The Mountain Lions average 83.8 points per game while holding opponents under 80, pairing efficiency with physicality. Their +5.5 scoring margin reflects a team that wins on both ends, and their rebounding edge (+5.4 per game) often dictates the flow of games. Concord has been especially consistent in conference play, building wins through execution rather than pace, and rarely beating itself.
Quick Look at The Mountain Lions
The Mountain Lions boast one of the most balanced starting lineups in the conference. Kraig Gilbert leads the way at 17.4 points per game, shooting better than 56% from the field and over 50% from three. Inside, Boubacar Djigo has been dominant, averaging 15.7 points and nearly 13 rebounds, making him one of the most impactful frontcourt players Glenville will see all season.
Concord's depth allows them to maintain pressure without sacrificing efficiency. They share the ball well, rebound at a high level, and defend without fouling—traits that make them especially tough at home.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE (9–7, 4–5 MEC)
2025–26 Season
Glenville enters the week at (9–7) overall and (4–5) in MEC play, still firmly in the hunt but aware that consistency will determine how the second half of the season unfolds. Two road games against teams fighting for position present both a challenge and an opportunity. The Pioneers are still one of the most explosive offensive teams in the conference, averaging 86.7 points per game and shooting 46.5% from the field. Their perimeter shooting remains a major strength, knocking down 11.4 three-pointers per game at a 37.3% clip, one of the best marks in the MEC.
Even during recent losses, Glenville has continued to generate quality looks and move the ball effectively, averaging nearly 16 assists per game.
Quick Look at The Pioneers
Jalen Knott leads the charge at 18.2 points per game, serving as both scorer and playmaker while logging heavy minutes. Elijah Redfern complements him with 16.7 points per contest, providing spacing and shot-making on the wing. Inside, Prince Mosengo has been a force, shooting 64% from the floor while pulling down over nine rebounds per game, giving Glenville a reliable interior anchor.
Don Colon-Lewis continues to impact the game in multiple ways, leading the team in rebounds and adding defensive versatility, while Ammar Maxwell provides efficiency and balance in the starting lineup. Glenville's ability to protect the ball, rebound collectively, and dictate tempo will be tested heavily in both matchups.
