GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team fell to Wheeling, who has now won six out of their last seven, in three sets this afternoon (Oct. 10) at the Waco Center to close its three-match homestand. The Pioneers move to (10-10) overall and (3-5) in MEC play.
Juliana Nunez opened the match with a kill, but Wheeling answered to build a 6-2 lead. Kills from
Mylani Jackson and
Deniz Selen Yazar kept Glenville State within reach before the Cardinals scored six consecutive points to stretch their advantage to 13-5. The Pioneers responded with kills from
Ryann Landis and
Gracie Brown, followed by a
Kendel Harris service ace, to narrow the deficit to 14-9. Wheeling then rattled off seven straight points to pull ahead 21-9. Glenville State answered with a four-point run featuring kills from Nunez, Brown, and Selen Yazar, but the Cardinals secured the opening set, 25-14.
Glenville State stayed close early in the second set, receiving kills from Jackson and
Mikayla Curry before consecutive Nunez kills helped keep the Pioneers within 8-6. Wheeling created separation with four unanswered points, including three consecutive blocks, to take a 12-6 lead. Jackson and Curry supplied kills to bring the score to 13-8, but the Cardinals took control with a 10-point run. Camryn Matus recorded five service aces during the stretch as Wheeling extended its advantage to 23-8. Brown added two late kills before the Cardinals closed the set, 25-10, to move ahead 2-0.
The Pioneers opened the third set with kills from Selen Yazar and Nunez to take a 2-1 lead, but Wheeling responded with seven consecutive points to go ahead 8-2. Glenville State continued battling, receiving kills from
Blair Dobbins and
Madison Hardy as Nunez led the offense with seven kills in the frame. The Pioneers cut the deficit to 18-13 before the Cardinals answered with three straight points. Curry and Harris contributed late kills, while Harris teamed with Selen Yazar for a block to fend off match point. Wheeling finished the match on the next rally, taking the third set, 25-17.

Josie Schroder and Camryn Matus led the Cardinals with 11 kills apiece, hitting .647 and .524, respectively. Matus also supplied 13 assists, seven digs, and a match-high five service aces. Bella DeBarr and Aleithia Wilson contributed five kills each, while Wilson and Schroder recorded five blocks apiece. Faith Keifer added 12 assists and eight digs, and Mara McDougal anchored the defense with a match-high 11 digs. Wheeling finished with 41 kills, 36 assists, 47 digs, nine blocks, and seven service aces, hitting .444.

Juliana Nunez paced the Pioneers with 10 kills, while

Gracie Brown contributed five apiece.
Deniz Selen Yazar added four kills and a block, followed by
Mikayla Curry with three kills.
Irmak Bezek directed the offense with 13 assists and collected six digs, while

Kendel Harris led the defense with nine digs and recorded a block and the Pioneers' lone service ace.
Kassie Swink contributed five digs. Glenville State totaled 34 kills, 31 assists, 40 digs, one block, and one service ace, hitting .120.
