ATHENS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team fell to Concord, 3-0, on the road last night (Oct. 2) inside the Carter Center. The Pioneers fall to (9-8, 2-3 MEC) on the season.
Concord built an early 8-4 advantage in the opening set before Glenville State rallied to take an 11-9 lead behind kills from
Ryann Landis and
Gracie Brown. The teams traded points through the middle of the frame before the Mountain Lions moved ahead, 17-14. Back-to-back kills from
Juliana Nunez and a finish from
Mylani Jackson tied the set at 17-17, but Concord regained control and held off the Pioneers to take the opener, 25-21.
The Mountain Lions controlled the second set, opening with a 4-0 lead before extending the margin to 11-1. Jackson supplied two kills and
Deniz Selen Yazar added a solo block, but the Pioneers struggled to find their offensive rhythm. Concord closed the frame with nine consecutive points to secure a 25-3 victory.
Glenville State responded in the third, overcoming an early 6-1 deficit with six straight points to take a 7-6 lead. Brown, Nunez, and
Madison Hardy contributed kills during the rally, while Landis capped the run with a solo block. The Pioneers later took a 14-13 advantage following kills from Nunez and Brown, but Concord answered with four consecutive points. Two Brown kills brought GSU within one at 17-16 before the hosts used a five-point run to create separation. Glenville State trimmed the deficit to 22-19, but Concord scored the final three points to complete the sweep.

Meg Williams and Chloe Thompson paced the Mountain Lions with six kills apiece, followed by Jasmine Anderson with five. Anderson and Addie Adkins each recorded a match-high five blocks, while Maddie Stull added four. Paige Richmond directed the offense with 11 assists and Savannah Davila contributed eight. Allie Davis led the defense with 12 digs, while Williams added seven. Williams, Davis, and Adkins each supplied two service aces.
Glenville State
Gracie Brown led the Pioneers with a match-high 11 kills and added seven digs.
Juliana Nunez and
Ryann Landis contributed four kills apiece, while
Mylani Jackson and
Shyanne Hays each finished with three. Hays added a team-high two blocks.
Irmak Bezek paced the offense with 17 assists and recorded GSU's lone service ace.
Kassie Swink led the defense with a match-high 13 digs, while Nunez collected six in the defeat.
