BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team wasted no time asserting control Saturday (Feb. 14) afternoon, delivering one of its most explosive offensive performances of the season in a 112–66 Mountain East Conference victory over West Virginia Wesleyan inside the Rockefeller Center. Behind a historic shooting display from Jalen Knott and relentless pressure on both ends, the Pioneers set the tone early and never let up, improving their record to (16-8) overall and (10-6) in MEC play.
1st Half
After Wesleyan opened the scoring, Glenville responded immediately — and emphatically. Jalen Knott buried a three-pointer on the next possession, then followed with another, and another. The senior guard erupted for eight first-half three-pointers, piling up 24 points before the 10-minute mark and completely flipping the momentum of the game.
As Knott caught fire from deep, the rest of the Pioneers fed off the energy. Ammar Maxwell attacked the rim with confidence, finishing through contact and converting in transition. Prince Mosengo established control on the glass, limiting second chances while creating extra possessions for Glenville. Elijah Redfern orchestrated the offense, finding shooters in rhythm and pushing tempo whenever opportunities presented themselves.
GSU shot nearly 58 percent from the field in the opening half and knocked down 10 three-pointers, steadily building separation. What began as a competitive early stretch quickly turned into a double-digit lead, then a 20-point cushion, as the Pioneers kept their foot on the gas. By halftime, Glenville had seized complete control, heading into the locker room with a commanding 55–29 advantage.
2nd Half
Any thought of easing off disappeared early in the second half. Knott opened the period with another three-pointer, pushing his total to 35 points — at one point outscoring Wesleyan on his own deep into the half. His shooting stretched the defense beyond its limits, creating space everywhere else on the floor. Maxwell continued his efficient afternoon, finishing at the rim and converting in transition. Mosengo added a perimeter three of his own before returning to his work inside, and Redfern continued to facilitate, flirting with a triple-double as he filled the stat sheet with rebounds and assists.
The Pioneers' depth again proved impactful. Callum Crossman brought energy and physicality off the bench, Rye Gadd knocked down key shots in rhythm, and Corey Boulden added timely scoring as Glenville's lead ballooned past 40. The Pioneers turned defensive pressure into offense, scoring 31 points off turnovers and dominating in transition. By the midway point of the half, the outcome was no longer in doubt. Glenville maintained its intensity through the final horn, finishing the afternoon with 112 points on 56 percent shooting and 18 made three-pointers in one of the most complete performances of the season.
