Poor First Half Shooting Dooms Lady Pioneers in Loss at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team had their seven-game winning streak snapped today (Feb. 14) in Buckhannon, as the Lady Pioneers fell behind early and couldn't mount a comeback in their 86-74 defeat at West Virginia Wesleyan. With the defeat, the Lady Pioneers fell to (19-4, 13-3 MEC) on the year.

1st Half
It was a 12-12 ballgame right before the media timeout, but a 9-0 run by the Bobcats created separation that the Lady Pioneers couldn't decimate. Two points in the final five-plus minutes of the first quarter forced GSU a 23-14 deficit after a quarter of play. West Virginia Wesleyan kept Glenville State at bay the whole second quarter, answering every bucket that GSU nailed to grow their advantage to 43-29 at halftime.

2nd Half
Out of the locker room, the WVWC lead ballooned to as much as 16 before a buckets from Khalia Bryant and Stevi Yancy eventually trimmed the Lady Pioneer deficit to just seven. Once again, the Bobcats answered the GSU punches with haymakers of their own, pushing their lead back to double digits and eventually to 14 at the end of three, 64-50. Nylah Davis helped the Lady Pioneers trim the orange and black's advantage to seven on separate occasions in the final stanza, however, WVWC kept GSU at arm's length for the remainder of the game, snapping Glenville State's seven-game winning streak and cutting GSU's first place lead in the MEC to just one game.
