Preview: February Push Begins for Men's Basketball

2/3/2026 6:30:00 PM

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - With February underway and the Mountain East Conference standings tightening by the day, Glenville State Men's Basketball enters a pivotal week with postseason positioning hanging in the balance. Sitting sixth in the MEC at (7–6), Glenville is firmly in the middle of a congested standings race, just one game back of Concord and Wheeling and level with Frostburg State as teams jockey for seeding entering the final stretch of conference play. The Pioneers open the week on the road at Point Park on Wednesday (Feb. 4) before returning home Saturday (Feb. 7) to host Salem.

THE OPPONENTS
POINT PARK (6–12, 4–9 MEC)
2025-26 Season
Point Park enters Wednesday night riding a three-game winning streak, including back-to-back conference wins over West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. While their overall record reflects inconsistency, the Pioneers have shown flashes offensively, particularly from the perimeter, where they average 11.1 three-pointers per game and shoot nearly 39% from deep as a team.

Quick Look at The Pioneers
Offensively, Point Park leans heavily on balance and spacing. Aidan Anderson leads the way at 18.3 points per game, scoring efficiently at over 52% from the field, while Grant Welch and Kaden Warner add consistent perimeter threats. The Pioneers are comfortable turning games into shooting contests, ranking well above the conference average in three-point makes per game.

Where PPU has struggled is on the glass and defensively. They are being outrebounded by more than eight boards per game, surrender 85.4 points per contest, and allow opponents to shoot nearly 50% from the field. Glenville's physical frontcourt and ability to score inside-out could stress a Point Park team that has struggled to control tempo against stronger rebounding units.

SALEM (7–12)
2025-26 Season
Saturday's matchup brings a familiar opponent in Salem, a team Glenville handled convincingly earlier this season with a 104–72 road win. Since then, Salem has remained competitive offensively, averaging 76.9 points per game, but has struggled defensively, allowing nearly 86 points per contest and giving up double-digit three-point makes per game.

Quick Look at The Tigers
Salem's offense revolves around a trio of high-usage scorers. Zahki Fallen leads the Tigers at 18.7 points per game, while Eman Lawal adds 17.9 points and over eight rebounds per contest, providing both scoring and physicality inside. Jamari Gamble offers additional shot creation, giving Salem multiple options offensively.

However, turnovers and defensive efficiency have plagued the Tigers. Salem averages nearly 16 turnovers per game and posts one of the lower assist-to-turnover ratios in the league. Against a Glenville team that thrives in transition and converts turnovers into points, ball security will be a decisive factor.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE (12–8, 7–6 MEC)
2025-26 Season
Glenville enters the week at (12–8) overall with one of the most efficient offenses in the Mountain East Conference. The Pioneers average 88.3 points per game, rank among league leaders in field-goal percentage, and sit near the top of the MEC in three-pointers made per game.

Quick Look at The Pioneers
The attack is led by Elijah Redfern and Jalen Knott, who combine for more than 35 points per night, while Don Colon-Lewis and Prince Mosengo anchor the interior with physical rebounding and rim presence. Glenville's depth has also proven valuable, with multiple players capable of providing scoring bursts without disrupting offensive flow.

Defensively, Glenville has leaned on activity and pressure to generate points off turnovers, averaging over 16 points per game in transition opportunities created by defense. That ability to dictate pace will be key against a Point Park team that thrives when allowed to settle into half-court rhythm.
