GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State athletes Janae Scott, Carson Smith and Trent Taylor have been awarded GoMart Pioneers of the Week, the GSU Athletic department announced.
 
Scott took the female honors after an extraordinary MEC Track & Field Outdoor Championships that concluded Tuesday, as the Doylestown, Pa. native won two conference championships and was runner-up in another. She won the shot put (14.63m) and the discus (43.09m) while placing second in the hammer throw at 50.05m, which set the school record.
 
Smith was impressive for the Pioneers and helped GSU to a fourth-place finish, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.95. The Monroe, N.C. product was then a member of the runner-up 4x400m relay team that also broke the school record with a time of 3:17.
 
Taylor, who is from Fleming, Ohio, pitched a gem for the Pioneer baseball team in the program's four-game sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan over the weekend. The 6-foot-7 starting pitcher hurled a complete game shutout, striking out 11 with just four hits and one walk allowed. Taylor faced 23 batters and nearly struck out more than half of them in the game three victory.
