GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball prepares for a non-conference game and the Viking Classic this week as the Pioneers will be on the road to face Salem tomorrow (Sept. 1) and in North Carolina on Friday (Sept. 4) to take on four teams.

THE OPPONENTS
SALEM
The Tigers started the 2026 season (3-0) overall, playing in the USCAA Volleyball Tip-off. The Tigers are led by Head Coach Matt Carpenter and feature a roster with a mix of upperclassmen and talented newcomers, including senior outside hitters Brianna Beyerle and Noemi Combi. Salem opened the season earning wins over Penn State Shenango, Cincinnati-Clermont, and Kent State Tuscarawas.

BELMONT ABBEY
The Belmont Abbey Crusaders enter the 2026 season as a competitive NCAA Division II program in Conference Carolinas. Led by Head Coach Toni Fox, who is entering her 10^th season with the program, the Crusaders have a stronger history of success, including three division championships and an overall regular-season conference title. Belmont Abbey opened the season with a (2-1) record, sweeping both Davis & Elkins and Winston-Salem State, but losing to Catawba at the 5^th Set Invitational.

KUTZTOWN
The Kutztown Gold Bears, a member of the PSAC, are led by Jason Barshinger, who begins his second season at Kutztown. KU started the 2026 season (3-1), earning three sweeps before losing to nationally competitive Lewis at the D'Youville University Tournament. Madilyn Bogovic and Paige Skinner have provided strong offensive production early in the season, while the team has shown solid defensive play. 

WEST CHESTER
The Golden Rams are led by Head Coach Kassie Bellaver, who brings almost 20 years of experience at West Chester and has established herself as the program's all-time winningest coach. She enters her 19^th season as head coach. West Chester opened the 2026 season (2-1), earning sweeps over Caldwell and Lincoln before falling to West Virginia State in five sets.

CHOWAN
The Chowan Hawks, who are out of the Conference Carolinas, are coached by Kellan Hillingsworth. Chowan opened the 2026 season (0-3), falling to Saint Leo, Coker, and Valdosta State at the Coker Cobra Classic. Anna Holcombe, Madison Henderson, and transfer setter Andrea Krgovic are three players to watch this season. Glenville State played Chowan last year at the GSU Tournament, where the Pioneers earned a 3-1 victory, making this matchup another opportunity for Glenville State to build on its previous success against the Hawks.
 
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Glenville State Pioneers opened the 2026 season with a (2-2) record and have already shown their ability to compete with different styles of opponents. The Pioneers have been especially impressive offensively, hitting .287 as a team in their 3-0 sweep of Clinton College while recording 45 kills. Gracie Brown, Kendel Harris, and Mikayla Curry have provided a strong offensive presence, while Irmak Bezek has helped lead the offense. The Pioneers will look to build on their strong start as they continue through a competitive early-season schedule.
