GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team delivered a commanding performance this afternoon (Sept. 12), sweeping Virginia Union in three sets inside the Waco Center. The Pioneers are now (6-5 on the season.
Glenville State established control immediately in the opening set. The Pioneers created early separation behind an effective attack and strong defensive pressure, preventing Virginia Union from developing a consistent rhythm. GSU continued to build its advantage throughout the frame before closing out a dominant 25-12 victory. The Pioneers carried that momentum into set two, remaining balanced offensively and continuing to pressure Virginia Union from the service line. The Panthers attempted to settle into the match, but GSU maintained control of the frame and pulled away for a 25-14 win, moving within one set of the sweep. Glenville State completed the sweep with another convincing performance in the third. Virginia Union worked to extend the match, going back and forth with points, but the Pioneers remained composed and continued to find openings in the Panthers' defense. GSU maintained its advantage through the closing points and earned another 25-14 victory to finish the match in three straight sets.

Jordan Carter, Maria Pena, and Sanai Doster led Virginia Union with four kills apiece. Zinnia Pickett recorded a team-high eight assists, while Pena added four and Alana Simmons contributed two. Pickett also led the Panthers with two service aces. Carter paced the defensive effort with nine digs, followed by Pena with eight and Deanna Nesbitt with four. Pena finished with two blocks as Madison Hill and Alexandra Perot each added one.

Kendel Harris led Glenville State's offense with a match-high 11 kills, while
Gracie Brown and
Juliana Nunez followed with 10 kills apiece.
Irmak Bezek directed the Pioneers' attack with 15 assists, while
Elitsa Peneva added 14 and
Kassie Swink recorded two. Peneva and
Shyanne Hays finished with two service aces apiece, while Swink added one. Harris also led GSO defensively with eight digs, followed by Peneva with seven and Bezek with five. Brown, Nunez, and
Madison Lowe each contributed two blocks.
