Preview: Pair of Home Conference Matches Ahead for Pioneer Volleyball

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Volleyball returns to the Waco Center this week for a pair of Mountain East Conference matchups as the Pioneers will open the week against Shawnee State on Tuesday (Sept. 22) before welcoming West Virginia State on Friday (Sept. 25). All three teams enter the week looking for their first conference victory of the season. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.

THE OPPONENTS
SHAWNEE STATE
2026 Season
Shawnee State enters the week with a (5-8, 0-1 MEC) record. The Bears are in their first season as a member of the Mountain East Conference and will travel to Glenville looking to secure their first MEC victory in program history.

Shawnee State is led offensively by Kaylee McInnis, who has recorded a team-high 126 kills, while Brianne Hicks follows closely with 115. Jalynn West has directed the Bears' offense with 275 assists while also leading the team with 17 service aces. Defensively, Graciana Claxon leads Shawnee State with 173 digs, followed by Mylee Gleim with 115. Natalie Reida has been a force at the net with a team-high 40 blocks, while Camille Hall has added 38.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2026 Season
West Virginia State enters the week with a (4-7, 0-1 MEC) record and will travel to the Waco Center looking for its first conference victory of the season. Friday's matchup will be the first of two meetings between the Pioneers and Yellow Jackets during the regular season.

Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
Carmen Pérez leads the West Virginia State attack with 106 kills while also contributing 144 digs and 17 service aces. Gabrielle Elliott follows with 79 kills, while Maya Vilmar has added 59. Kelsey Mckeehan leads the Yellow Jackets with 238 assists, followed by Audrey Buck with 185. Buck also leads the team from the service line with 20 aces. Defensively, Lilly Adkins has collected a team-high 202 digs, while Milena Jansson leads West Virginia State at the net with 31 blocks.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2026 Season
The Pioneers enter the week with a (6-6, 0-1 MEC) record after a hard-fought five-set loss to Point Park in their conference opener. Glenville State fell behind 2-0 before responding with wins in the third and fourth sets to force a deciding fifth, where Point Park secured the match with a 15-13 victory. With Glenville State, Shawnee State and West Virginia State all entering the week at (0-1) in MEC play, the Pioneers will look to take advantage of their two-match home slate and build momentum in the early portion of the conference schedule

Glenville State has received production throughout its lineup through the opening 12 matches. Gracie Brown leads the Pioneers offensively with 123 kills, followed by Kendel Harris with 86, Mikayla Curry with 76, Juliana Nunez with 73 and Deniz Selen Yazar with 64. Irmak Bezek has directed the Pioneer offense with a team-high 248 assists, while Elitsa Peneva has added 137. Selen Yazar leads GSU from the service line with 14 aces, followed by Kassie Swink with 10. Swink also anchors the defensive effort with a team-high 106 digs, while Harris has recorded 54 and Cecelia Bryant has added 48. At the net, Curry leads Glenville State with 27 blocks, followed closely by Selen Yazar with 24.
