Women's Soccer Falls in the Steel City

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Glenville State Women's Soccer fell to Point Park, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 27) at Rooney Field. The Pioneers battled through a scoreless first half before Point Park broke through late in the match to hand Glenville State its second consecutive setback. With the result, the Pioneers move to (4-5) overall and (4-3) in Mountain East Conference play. 

1st Half 
Point Park applied pressure from the opening whistle, creating several early opportunities while forcing Glenville State to defend. Lucia Lopez was called into action less than 10 minutes into the match, making a save on a shot by Julie Rusiecki to keep the game scoreless. The Pioneers nearly found the opening goal in the seventh minute when Luiza Rodrigues Siecola struck the left post. Later in the half, Sofia Jalaksova placed a shot on target that was stopped by Point Park goalkeeper Nicole Kuchinski. 

Lopez continued to anchor the Glenville State defense throughout the opening 45 minutes, recording four saves as the teams headed into halftime tied 0-0. 

2nd Half 
Both teams continued to battle through a physical second half as scoring chances remained limited. Point Park maintained the offensive advantage and eventually found the breakthrough in the 76th minute when Julie Rusiecki connected with Eliya Adjo for the match's lone goal. Glenville State looked for an equalizer in the final minutes but was unable to convert on any of their opportunities against the Point Park defense. The Pioneers earned two second-half corner kicks after the goal and continued to push forward, but the home side held on for the 1-0 victory.

Point Park 
Point Park outshot Glenville State 15-5 and held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. Eliya Adjo scored the game's only goal, while Julie Rusiecki recorded the assist. Nicole Kuchinski made two saves to earn the shutout. The Pioneers also matched Glenville State with two corner kicks and were credited with 14 fouls.

Lucia Lopez turned in another strong performance in goal, recording seven saves while facing 15 shots. Sofia Jalaksova and Luiza Rodrigues Siecola generated two of Glenville State's best scoring opportunities, including the first half shot off the post from Rodrigues Siecola. The Pioneers finished with five shots, two shots on goal, and two corner kicks.

Glenville State returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 30) when they travel to West Liberty for Mountain East Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at West Family Athletic Complex.
