INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team traveled to West Virginia State Sunday (Sept. 6), where they picked up their first victory of the 2026 season and first victory over WVSU in program history. The 1-0 win against the Yellow Jackets moves the Pioneers to a (1-2) record.
1st Half
The one and only goal match came at just the sixth minute of play, scored by Pioneers midfielder Valentina Quiroz. WV State had a pair of shots right after the initial goal, but both missed. A few more Yellow Jacket attempts followed throughout the half, with the only on target being saved by Pioneer goalkeeper Lucia Lopez.
2nd Half
The second half started with a quick try by the Yellow Jackets, but was once again stopped by Lopez. Another pair of attempts by the Yellow Jackets four minutes later were unsuccessful, ending in one off target and the second being saved. The only other shots of the quarter also came from the Yellow Jackets, outshooting the Pioneers 7-0 in the half.

West Virginia State
Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz led the Yellow Jackets with three shots, one on goal. Leila Karam followed with two shots, one on goal. Throughout the match, West Virginia State outshot Glenville 12-4 in total, and 4-1 on corner kicks.
Glenville State
The Pioneers made one of two on goal shots, for a final score of 1-0. GSU also committed seven total fouls, finishing with one fewer foul than WV State's eight. Lucia Lopez also added four saves to her total for the season.
