Evan McFarland enters his first season as a Baseball Graduate Assistant Coach here at Glenville State College.
McFarland, a catcher, was a two-year captain at Lock Haven University where he won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017. He also served as an intern in the Athletic Department during his time at Lock Haven. In 2015 he also won the Defensive Player of the Year award in the Mountain West Collegiate League.
After graduating from Lock Haven, McFarland served as a rehab bullpen catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. In the summer of 2018, he served a role with USA Baseball.
“Coach McFarland’s enthusiasm for learning is going to help our player development and organization as a whole to be more comprehensive,” said Head Coach Jimmy Mullins. “We are excited for him to serve the catchers in their development on a daily basis.”
McFarland, who has experience running camps and scheduling tournaments, will also oversee the development of summer baseball tournaments at the Sue Morris Sports Complex. The new initiative will bring additional funding to the baseball team as well as continue to promote baseball in Glenville.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity at Glenville State College. I want to thank Dr. Nelson, John Beckvold, Jesse Skiles, and Jimmy Mullins for the opportunity,” stated McFarland. “There is a big future in Glenville State Baseball.”
