Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers snapped a two game losing streak as they defeated the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon by 16 points, 92-76.
Glenville State (7-6, 4-5) got off to a great start jumping out a 10-0 lead at the 17:54 minute mark. West Virginia State made a run and cut the Pioneers lead to just five, 25-20 with 8:08 left till halftime. However GSC would take an 11 point lead into halftime 44-33.
In the second half GSC would get another great start as they pushed their lead to 17, 63-48 with 12:48 left to play. The Yellow Jackets would make a push and cut the defect to nine points 76-67 with 4:55 to play but that is as close as West Virginia State would get as the Pioneers went on to claim the victory.
GSC never trailed in the game and their largest lead was 19 points which came in the second half. The Pioneers won the battle on the inside outscoring the Yellow Jackets 43 to 40.
Glenville State had five players score in double figures with
Terry Davis Jr. scoring a game high 22 points and 10 rebounds posting a double-double. Davis also dished out a game high seven assists.
Jon Dunmyer scored 19 points while
Brett Morris chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Micah Thomas scored 11 points off the bench for GSC and freshman
Brooks Ely scored 10 points.
West Virginia State (5-10, 2-7) was led by DeQuan Doyle as he scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for a double-double.
Glenville State will return to action on Monday, January 16
th as they host the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston. Tip-off is set for 7:30p.m.Â
