Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers went on the road Saturday and walked away with a huge win as they defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles by nine points.
Glenville State (10-12, 7-11) got two great performances from
Brett Morris and
Jalon Plummer as they combined for 58 of the Pioneers 87 points.
Charleston (14-10, 9-10) got off to a great start as they built a nine point lead over GSC 13-4 at the 14:38 minute mark. The Pioneers then went on a 13-0 run lead by
Brett Morris as GSC took their first lead of the game at the 11:53 minute mark 17-13.
But Charleston would end the half on a run as they held a four point lead at the break 38-34.
In the second half of action both teams would go back and forth with several lead changes and ties. With just 2:47 to go in the game GSC and UC were all tied up at 77 all however the Pioneers then went on a 10-1 run to end the game as they picked up the victory 87-78.
The game saw seven lead changes and nine ties.
Glenville State shot 43 percent from the floor and 46 percent from behind the arc as they hit 12 three-pointers. Charleston finished the night shooting 43 percent from the floor and 31 percent from deep.
Brett Morris led all scorers with 31 points, a season-high, to go with eight rebounds and four blocks while
Jalon Plummer also scored a season-high pouring in 27 points going 5-of-11 from deep. Plummer also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists.
Terry Davis Jr. chipped in with nine points and
Jon Dunmyer scored eight points in the win.
Charleston was led by Keir Anderson as he scored 27 points.
Glenville State is now on a two game winning streak and will return to action this Thursday, February 16
th as they host the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. from the Waco Center.Â
