Softball Sweeps Salem International

Glenville, W.Va – The Lady Pioneers softball team pushed their win streak to three games Thursday night after picking up two wins over Salem International 3-0, and 8-1.

Ally Brown went the distance on the mound in game one earning the Win and did not surrender a run. From the plate, Brown added two RBI doubles. McKenzie Edmonds scored on both of Brown's doubles. Junior Hayley Olson also scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Pioneers were able to score three runs on three hits and no errors. SIU was held to zero runs on five hits while committing two errors.

Senior Miranda Cropp picked up the win on the mound in game two for GSC. The lady Pioneers would score first in the bottom of the third inning. Mackenzie Smith had an RBI single that scored McKenzie Edmonds. Later in the inning, Cassidy Taylor smacked an RBI single that scored Ally Brown.

In the top of the fourth, Salem's Jordan Whitaker doubled to left center scoring Jordan Williams. This turned out to be SIU's only run on the day.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Pioneers would strike again, this time an Ally Brown single to center scoring Edmonds. The Lady Pioneers were able to break the game open in the bottom of the fifth scoring five runs. The five-run fifth started with a Cassidy Taylor single scoring Paranda Uber and Jeri Potter. Taylor was able to advance to third base on a throw to home plate. Freshman Tori Ward notched an RBI in the inning reaching base on an error by the second baseman, this scored Cassidy Taylor. A wild play started by a fielder's choice from Edmonds was able to advance runners to second and third, also scoring Ward. Ward's run pushed the lead to 7-1. The final run of the evening came on an Ally Brown fielder's choice, this time scoring Dallas Kilgore.

In game two, GSC scored eight runs on 12 hits and committed just one error. Salem International scored one run on six hits and committed four errors.

The Lady Pioneers are back in action next Saturday and Sunday, March 11th and 12th at the Salem Virginia tournament.
