Softball Splits with Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit

Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer softball team split a double-header on Friday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex with the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals.

Glenville State's McKenzie Edmonds would hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning as she lifted the Lady Pioneers past Wheeling Jesuit 3-2 in game two of the afternoon.

Glenville State would strike first in the second as Taylor Brumfield hit a solo homerun, her second of the season, as the Lady Pioneers led 1-0.

Wheeling Jesuit took their first lead in the third as they went up 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh with GSC trailing, Tori Ward hit a double to right field as Jerri Potter scored as the Lady Pioneers tied the game up at 2-2 and sent it into extra innings.

Neither team would score in the eighth or ninth but GSC would end it in the 10th off of a McKenzie Edmonds walk-off, however it wasn't Edmonds first walk-off of the season as she did it back on March 20th to defeat Fairmont State.

McKenzie Edmonds went 2-for-5 with an RBI while Ally Brown went 2-for-4 and Taylor Brumfield finished the game 1-for-4 and a homerun.

Ally Brown picked up her seventh win on the mound as she pitched the entire game allowing eight hits, two runs, and struck out three batters.

In the first game of the day, GSC managed just three hits while giving up 10 hits to the Cardinals as they fell to Wheeling Jesuit 3-0.

The Cardinals would strike first in the second as they took a 1-0 lead after an RBI single.

The Lady Pioneers had a chance in the bottom of the second with two runners on and one out but a line drive to second and fly out to left field saw the inning end.

Glenville State had another chance in the sixth inning but could not score.

Wheeling Jesuit added two late runs in the seventh as they took a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh GSC saw three up and three down as they fell in game one 3-0.

Raven Greer went 2-for-3 while Hannah Wright and Taylor Brumfield each had a hit.

Miranda Cropp pitched 6.1 innings giving up 10 hits, three runs, and had two strike outs.

Glenville State (12-27, 6-14) will return to action tomorrow Saturday, April 15th as they host the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University in a double-header at 11:00 a.m.
