Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer softball team split their two game series with the Bears of West Virginia Tech on the road Wednesday afternoon.
Ally Brown continued her strong play as she helped the Lady Pioneers jump out to 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one as she singled scoring
Kim Ellis.
Raven Greer helped GSC extend their in the fourth as she singled to center and
Hannah Wright crossed the plate as the Lady Pioneers led 2-0.
However West Virginia Tech took their first lead of the game in the fifth inning as they scored three runs as they led 3-2. The Bears then added two more runs in the sixth as they took the first matchup 5-2.
Ally Brown went 1-for-4 with an RBI while
Hannah Wright went 1-for-2 and scored a run and
Raven Greer went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Tori Ward pitched 5.0 innings allowing nine hits, five runs, and had one strike out.
Game two again saw the Lady Pioneer jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first off of a
Mackenzie Smith grounder which scored
Ally Brown. In the second inning the Lady Pioneers would make some separation as they scored seven runs as they took a commanding 8-0 lead.
West Virginia Tech would add four runs in the bottom of the second and two runs in the seventh however Glenville State held on to win the second game of the series, 8-6.
Glenville State finished with eight hits and committed two errors while they allowed West Virginia Tech 13 hits.
Ally Brown led GSC as she went 1-for-3 with three RBI's.
Taylor Brumfield went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Desiree Payne finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Kahla Von Berge picked up her first win on the mound as she pitched 4.0 innings allowing 10 hits, four runs, and had one strike out.
Glenville State (10-22, 4-10) will return to action this Saturday, April 8
th at 1:00 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex as they host the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. That day is also Burgers, Brats, & Bats as all fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lady Pioneers with free food and drinks during the game.Â
