Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers dropped their home opener to the Tigers of Salem International University on Tuesday evening at the Waco Center, 3-0.
Glenville State (0-10, 0-2) finished the game with 19 more attacks than Salem International (4-15) 131-112 while the Tigers tallied just one more kill in the match 31-30.
Salem International took set one from GSC, 25-17. The Lady Pioneers matched the Tigers kills in the first set at 9-9 but committed four more errors in the set 8-4.
The second set saw GSC take an early lead at 3-1 however the Tigers would fight back and take set two, 25-22. The Lady Pioneers had three more kills than the Tigers at 11-8 but again committed three more errors at 10-7.
In the third set Glenville State would hold a late lead over the Salem International at 20-18 however several costly mistakes would end up hurting the Lady Pioneers as they fell, 25-23. The Tigers had 14 kills while the Lady Pioneers finished the set with 10.
Glenville State committed six more errors on the night than Salem International at 25-19.
Haley Wolff had a nice evening for GSC as she led the team in kills with nine. Wolff, also had three serve aces in the game.
Madison Gargus led GSC in assists with 29 while
Ai Miyazaki led the team in digs with 17.
Glenville State will return to action next Tuesday, October 3
rd as they return to conference play when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Bobcats.
