Wise, Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer volleyball team went on the road Saturday and fell to the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise in three sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 29-27).
Glenville State (5-14, 1-10) had 35 kills on 119 attacks while committing 22errors. UVa-Wise (5-19, 2-8) recorded 45 kills on 112 attacks and had just 12 errors.
UVa-Wise jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the set number one. The Cavaliers then stretched their lead to 18-10 and never looked back as they took the set over GSC, 25-12.
In the second set of the afternoon GSC found themselves trailing by two points, 10-8. UVa-Wise then went on a 7-4 run as they held a 17-12 lead before winning it, 25-19.
In the third and final set, the Lady Pioneers trailed by four to the Cavaliers, 14-10. However, GSC then went on an 11-6 run as they tied it up at 21-21. The Lady Pioneers then scored then next two points to take a 23-21 lead.
But the Cavaliers outscored the Lady Pioneers 8 to 4 down the stretch as the Lady Pioneers fell, 29-27.
Glenville State had five service aces in the contest while UVa-Wise had six on the day.
GSC Freshman
Skylar Mace had a game-high 13 kills on 34 attacks.
Jezaray Clark-Casto and
Hannah McKown each finished with eight kills.
Ai Miyazaki led GSC in digs with 15 while
Madison Gargus had 29 assists.
UVa-Wise was led by Madelyn Lawrence as she had 12 kills. Kelsey Green had 14 digs with Makayla Ledford leading the way in assists with 39.
Glenville State (5-14, 1-10) will return to action next Friday, October 26
th when they host the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. on Senior Night from inside the Waco Center.
