Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team dropped their season opening double-header on the road Friday afternoon to the Bulldogs of Barton College.

Barton would take the early lead in game one in the first inning with an RBI single to center field as they took a 1-0 lead.

Glenville State would tie it up at 1-1 in the third inning as Zach Bacon hit an RBI single to right field as Logan Henderson crossed the plate. However Barton would answer right back in the bottom of the third as they scored two runs as they took a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs would eventually run away with it as they scored two more runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth as they handed the Pioneers their first loss of the year, 8-3.

Glenville State finished with seven hits and committed two errors while Barton finished with 12 hits and no errors.

Logan Henderson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run while Bryan Bayliss went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Zach Bacon had the other RBI for GSC while Jordan Braniff also scored a run.

Brady Wilkinson earned the loss as he pitched three innings allowing six hits, five runs, and struck out five batters.

In game two, GSC would manage to record the first hit, in the top of the first, but would not be able to get any runners to cross the plate as they left two runners on base.

Barton would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first as they scored three runs on one hit while GSC committed an error as the Bulldogs led, 3-0.

The Bulldogs would add to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as they scored a run off of two hits as they held a 4-0 lead over the Pioneers.

Barton was back at it in the bottom of the fourth as they added two more runs off of two hits as they went up 6-0.

GSC would register two hits in the top of the fifth but would end up leaving two runners stranded on bases as they ended up falling to the Bulldogs, 6-0.

The Pioneers recorded four hits and committed two errors while Barton had four hits and committed one error. 

Logan Henderson, Tyler Phillips, Jordan Braniff, and Bryan Bayliss all had a hit in the contest.

Wesley Stauffer picked up the loss as he pitched 5.2 innings giving up six runs on four hits and struck out five batters.

Glenville State (0-2) will play Barton in another double-header tomorrow Saturday, February 10^th with game one set for 12:00 p.m.
