Glenville, W.Va. – On Sunday the Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team opened up MEC conference play as they spilt the two game series with the Fairmont State University Falcons.
Fairmont State took the first game of the day 7-1 as they racked up seven hits with one error. Glenville State finished the game with four hits.
The Falcons scored first in the top of the first off of a solo homerun as they took a 1-0 lead. FSU added three more runs in the third inning off of two hits as they went up 4-0.
Glenville State crossed the plate in the fifth as
Jordan Braniff scored on a fielder's choice as they pulled within three runs 4-1.
However FSU scored three runs in the seventh as they took the conference opener from GSC, 7-1.
Andrue Hughart pitched 6.0 innings giving up four runs on five hits and struck out four batters. Â
Carter Boswell went 2-for-2 while
Anthony Jarvis and
Jordan Braniff each recorded a hit.
Bryan Bayliss had the lone RBI for the Pioneers.
In game two it would be all Pioneers as they defeated the Falcons by 14 runs, 16-2.
Glenville State posted 15 hits in the game while committing two errors with Fairmont State finishing with five hits and two errors.

John Peloro hit an RBI double to center field scoring
Jordan Braniff and later
Anthony Jarvis reached base on a FSU error as Peloro crossed the plate as they led 2-0.
Fairmont State scored one run in the second off of two hits in the inning as they made it 2-1. However GSC busted the game wide open in the third as they scored five runs on three hits taking a commanding 7-1 lead.
The Pioneers later scored six runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and a run in the sixth as they went on to take the second game, 16-2.
Adam Riggleman earned the win as he improved to 1-2 this season on the mound. He pitched 5.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits and had 10 strike outs.
John Peloro went 4-for-4 with six RBI's while
Anthony Jarvis finished the game going 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a homerun.
Christian Hedinger went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a homerun.
Glenville State (4-11, 1-1) will host the Rams of Shepherd University this Monday, March 19
th in a 1:00 p.m. double-header from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
