GSC Baseball Sweeps Wheeling Jesuit, Riggleman Throws No-hitter

Wheeling, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team swept Wheeling Jesuit University on the road Sunday afternoon while Adam Riggleman throws no-hitter in game two.

In game one, both teams would go scoreless until the fourth as the Pioneers scored seven runs on four hits to take a 7-0. Christian Hedinger would start the scoring with a fielder's choice RBI scoring John Peloro. Later, Logan Henderson singled to left field as Zach Bacon and Christian Hedinger both crossed the plate. Carter Boswell then singled to right with Tyler Phillips scoring. In the same inning Logan Henderson crossed the plate on a wild pitch by the Cardinals and then Jordan Braniff doubled down the third baseline as Carter Boswell and Bryan Bayliss both scored.

Glenville State then put the game out of reach in the seventh as they added three more runs on four hits. The Pioneers defeated Wheeling Jesuit 10-0.

The Pioneers recorded 10 hits and committed just one error. Wheeling Jesuit had just three hits and three errors.

Andrue Hughart improved to 4-2 on the mound as he pitched 4.1 innings allowing just three hits while striking out eight batters.

Jordan Braniff went 1-for-4 with three RBI's while Logan Henderson went 3-for-4 with two RBI's. Carter Boswell, John Peloro, and Christian Hedinger each had an RBI.

Game two would belong to GSC pitcher Adam Riggleman as he threw a no-hitter. This is the first no-hitter since GSC brought baseball back in 2012.

Riggleman, who is now 2-2 on the season, pitched all seven innings with one walk and struck out nine Cardinal batters.

Glenville State jumped out to a 2-0 lead as they scored a run in the first and a run in the second. The Pioneers then added to their lead in the fifth as Tyler Phillips walked which saw John Peloro score. Logan Henderson was hit by the pitch scoring Christian Hedinger as they went up 4-0. 

Glenville State scored two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Then the Pioneers added three more runs on three hits in the seventh as they won game two, 9-0, over the Cardinals.

The Pioneers registered 14 hits in game two while again Adam Riggleman no-hits the Cardinals.

Carter Boswell went 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Anthony Jarvis finished 2-for-5 with two RBI's and Christian Hedinger went 3-for-5 with two RBI's.

Glenville State (6-13, 3-3) will return to the diamond tomorrow, March 26, when they travel to West Liberty University for a 1:00 p.m. double-header with the Hilltoppers
