Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team split a double-header on a chilly Friday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
Game one, GSC would strike first in the bottom of the first as
John Peloro double scored
Jordan Braniff and Trevon Smith as the Pioneers led 2-0.
Notre Dame pulled within one in the second inning as they scored one run off of two hits making it, 2-1.
Glenville State added to their lead in the bottom of the second as
Bryan Bayliss hit an RBI single scoring
Zach Bacon from second base as the Pioneers now led 3-1.
The Pioneers later added to their lead, this time in the bottom of the third, as they scored two more runs on two hits as they led the Falcons, 5-1.
The Falcons scored a run in the fifth off of three hits as they pulled within three, 5-2.
Glenville State then put the game out of reach in the sixth inning as they scored two more runs as they defeated Notre Dame, 7-2.
The Pioneers recorded 11 hits while the Falcons registered eight hits and committed one error.
Andrue Hughart pitched 5.2 innings as he picked up his fifth win of the season. He gave up two runs and struck out three batters.
Jose Rodriguez earned his third save of the season as he pitched 1.1 innings.
Trevon Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI while
John Peloro went 1-for-2 with three RBI's.
Christian Hedinger also had a nice game as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and
Bryan Bayliss went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In the second game of the day, the Falcons held a 5-1 lead over the Pioneers heading into the bottom of the seventh. However, GSC's bats would come alive as they tied it up at 5-5, scoring four runs on three hits.
Bryan Bayliss got the scoring started in the seventh off of an RBI single as
Christian Hedinger scored.
Jordan Braniff was then walked with the bases loaded as
Tyler Phillips crossed the plate. Finally,
John Peloro hit a double down the right field line scoring
Bryan Bayliss and
Logan Henderson as we headed to extra innings.
Notre Dame went back up 6-5 in the top of the eighth.
Glenville State then went three up and three down as they fell in game two, 6-5.
The Pioneers recorded seven hits and committed an error while the Falcons finished with five hits.
John Peloro went 1-for-4 with two RBI's while
Jordan Braniff,
Anthony Jarvis, and
Bryan Bayliss each had an RBI.
Jacob Williams earned the loss on the mound as he pitched 0.1 innings giving up the winning run and struck out one batter.
Glenville State (8-15, 5-5) will return to action tomorrow Saturday, March 31 as they host the Urbana University Blue Knights at 1:00 p.m.
