Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team wrapped up their series with the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise as they split a double-header on Tuesday afternoon.
GSC took game one from UVa-Wise by a final of 10-3.
The Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead in the first when
John Peloro singled to right field scoring Tre' Smith.
Glenville State added to their lead in the third inning scoring three runs on two hits as they took a 4-0 lead.
UVa-Wise got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth as they pulled within one run, 4-3, as they scored three runs on four hits. The Pioneers then made some separation in the sixth when Cater Boswell singled to left field scoring
Anthony Jarvis as they went up 5-3.
Glenville State then put the game out of reach in the seventh as they scored five runs on four hits, taking game one, 10-3. The Pioneers recorded nine hits while committing two errors and the Cavaliers registered eight hits with three errors.
James Finnemore picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 4.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five batters.
Jordan Braniff went 2-for-4 with an RBI while
Bryan Bayliss went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
John Peloro,
Christian Hedinger, and
Carter Boswell all recorded an RBI.
UVa-Wise defeated GSC in game two of the day, 4-3.
The Cavaliers took an early 4-0 after two innings as they scored a run in the first inning and three runs in the second.
Glenville State pulled within a run in the third inning when Tre' Smith hit a three run RBI homer, his third home run of the year, making it 4-3.
But that's as close as GSC would get as the Cavaliers held them scoreless in the last three innings as they beat the Pioneers 4-3.
The Pioneers finished with seven hits while the Cavaliers finished with nine hits.
Brady Wilkinson gave up four runs on six hits on the mound while striking out two batters.
Tre' Smith went 3-for-4 with three RBI while
John Peloro,
Christian Hedinger, Cater Boswell, and
Bryan Bayliss all had a hit in the game.
Glenville State (10-19, 7-9) will return to action tomorrow Wednesday, April 11 when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 3:00 p.m. single game.
