Glenville, W.Va. - The GSC Pioneers baseball team split the first two games of a four-game series at the Sue Morris sports Complex on Friday afternoon against the visiting University of Charleston Golden Eagles (20-14). The Golden Eagles took game one by a final score of 7-3. GSC took game two by a final score of 3-1.

In game one,
Andrue Hughart took the loss for the Pioneers. Hughart threw four innings, giving up six runs, on seven hits. The Pioneers committed two errors in the field.

Offensively,
Carter Boswell led the way going 2-2 from the plate and drawing a walk. Boswell also scored a run in the contest.

Charleston was able to plate a run in the top of the first inning, then three more in the top of the fourth inning. UC scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, GSC scored their first run of the game as
Jordan Braniff doubled to left to score Tre' Smith. UC plated another run in the top of the sixth inning. However, GSC was able to score two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-3.Â
Tyler Phillips would both single in the inning and eventually score for GSC.

Game two went to the Pioneers by a final score of 3-1.
Adam Riggleman earned the win on the mound for the Pioneers. Riggleman threw 5.2 innings giving up 1 run on six hits.

The second game of the afternoon would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.
John Peloro would take a fastball over the left-center field wall with Tre' Smith on base for a two-run homer. GSC would hold a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. The bottom of the sixth inning saw
Bryan Bayliss and
Tyler Phillips each connect on doubles. Bayliss would score as Phillips roped a fastball to right field. GSC would take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jose Rodriguez would come on to throw three scoreless innings for the Pioneers and earn his fourth save of the year.

GSC (11-21, 8-10) will host University of Charleston again tomorrow, April 14 for a double-header to close out the four-game series. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm.
