Baseball Splits Day Two with UC

Glenville, W.Va. - The GSC Baseball team split another double-header this afternoon with the University of Charleston. The Golden Eagles took game one, 10-2. Game two went to the Pioneers by a final score of 8-7.

James Finnemore took the loss in game one. Finnemore threw 0.2 innings and gave up 5 runs. 

UC got off to a hot start with the bats putting five runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Charleston drew five walks and recorded three base hits as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead. GSC would load the bases in the bottom of the first inning but fail to score any runs. In the top of the second, UC would execute a hit-and-run to score another run and take a 6-0 lead. 

GSC would put their first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Jordan Braniff would score on a single by Christian Hedinger. GSC would score again next as Logan Henderson would triple off the center field wall scoring Bryan Bayliss from first base. 

UC would increase their lead to 10-2 in the top of the sixth inning following a three-run homer and a pair of doubles. UC would hold on to take game one, 10-2.

Brady Wilkinson would get the start in game two. The Pioneers would trail until the bottom of the sixth, and Wesley Stauffer would earn the win on the mound

UC would open up the game in the top of the third inning scoring 6 runs on six base hits. The Golden Eagles would put another run on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, GSC would score their first run of the game as Carter Boswell hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Christian Hedinger.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, John Peloro would go on to hit his second home run of the series to cut the Golden Eagles lead to 7-2. Two batters later, freshman Anthony Jarvis would hit his sixth homer on the year to cut the Golden Eagles lead to 7-4. GSC would pile on four more runs in the inning following a Zach Bacon RBI ground rule double, and a Tre Smith triple to right field. GSC would hold an 8-7 lead going into the top of the seventh inning. 

Jose Rodriguez would enter in the top of the seventh to secure the win, and earn his fifth save of the season.

GSC (12-22, 9-11) will return to action on Saturday, April 21 and 22 as they travel to Concord University for a four-game series with the Mountain Lions.
