Athens, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team dropped a double-header on Saturday on the road to the Mountain Lions of Concord University.
Game one of the afternoon went to the Mountain Lions of Concord as they defeated the Pioneers, 8-2.
Concord took a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. GSC then cut the lead to one, 2-1, in the third when Tre' Smith hit an RBI single scoring
Logan Henderson.
However, the Mountain Lions responded in the bottom of the inning as they scored two more runs off of three hits as they now led 4-1.
The Pioneers added a run in the sixth inning as
John Peloro singled up the middle scoring Tre' Smith as they made it 4-2. But Concord would have a huge inning in the bottom of the sixth as they scored four runs and go on to beat the Pioneers 8-2.
Tre' Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI while
John Peloro went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Bryan Bayliss,
Carter Boswell, and
Logan Henderson all had a hit in the game.
Brady Wilkinson pitched 4.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits to go with three strike outs.
The Pioneers then fell in game two to Concord 6-5.
Glenville State held a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning as the Mountain Lions came up to bat.
Concord then scored three runs on three hits in the seventh as they came from behind to defeat GSC in the second game, 6-5.
The Pioneers registered nine hits with two errors while Concord finished with 10 runs and two hits.
Anthony Jarvis went 3-for-4 with two RBI while
Logan Henderson went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jose Rodriguez got the loss on the mound as he gave up three runs on one hit.
Glenville State (12-24, 9-13) will return to action tomorrow Sunday, April 22 when they take on Concord again in a double-header at 1:00 p.m.
