Wise, Va. - The Pioneer baseball team dropped two conference games on the road at UVa-Wise Friday afternoon. Game one went to Wise by a final score of 3-1. The Cavaliers then took game two by a final score of 7-6.

Andrue Hughart took the mound and the loss in game one. Hughart showed a strong outing for the Pioneers. The Cavaliers hung a three spot in the bottom of the second inning, but were held scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Pioneers only registered three hits in game one; Freshman
Anthony Jarvis put the lone run on the board behind a solo homer to left-field.

GSC mounted a comeback in game two but fell short, 7-6.

Scoring started in the top of the first as
John Peloro recorded a two RBI single scoring both
Jordan Braniff and Tre' Smith.

The bottom of the third proved to be the difference in the game as UVa-Wise put a five spot on the board as they led 5-2.

GSC would try to fight back throughout the remainder of the game. The Pioneers would cut the lead to 5-3 as Tre' Smith singled to shortstop scoring
Tyler Phillips in the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wise would put two more runs on the board to increase their lead to 7-3.Â

Carter Boswell put two runs on the board for GSC in the top of the fifth as he doubled to right-center scoring
Christian Hedinger and
Anthony Jarvis. GSC would also score in the top of the seventh as
Bryan Bayliss drew a bases loaded walk that scored Hedinger but the comeback came up short as GSC fell 7-6.

Adam Riggleman picked up the loss as he pitched 2.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits with two strike outs.

Tre' Smith went 3-for-4 with an RBI while
Jordan Braniff went 2-for-5 and
John Peloro finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Glenville State finished with 12 hits while UVa-Wise recorded just six hits.

The Pioneers (9-18, 6-8) are scheduled to play UVa-Wise tomorrow Saturday, April 7 however due to weather conditions the game date and time is TBD. Â
