Glenville, W.Va. – On Saturday morning, the Lady pioneers faced off against the Senators of Davis & Elkins. The Lady Pioneers came into the match with a 2-10 record after falling to West Virginia Wesleyan in four sets, where as D&E is coming into the match 7 and 5 overall. The match would end as the Senators would take the match four sets to one (25-21), (25-14),(25-10) and (25-23).
In the first set, the Senators maintained the lead throughout the match at 20-14 before the Lady Pioneers would make a comeback to tail 20-18 fighting point by point until the Senators took the match 25-21. The blue and White fought with the Senators as they were tied in kills at 13 a piece,
Karlei Shaver maintaining seven as well as five digs in the match.
The second set would start strong for the Lady Pioneers with two solo blocks by
Skylar Mace,
Seanna Stump and
Chase Cooksey. The Lady Pioneers would maintain two-point lead until the Senators gained control scoring six points straight leading 12-9. The Senators would uphold their control taking the set 25-14. Shaver would continue her kill streak to ten in the match, following Mace with five. Hannah Mckown and Winkley would receive ten digs each along with
Madison Shepherd with eight.
The Blue and White looking to make a statement against the Senators taking set three, 25-10. The Lady Pioneers out killed D&E 15-8 with three service aces by Mace,
Jyra Clark-Casto and Winkler.
GSC would continue to lead their momentum into the fourth set leading 17-15 before falling in final set 25-23.
Mace would rack 21 kills alone with Shaver following behind at 20
The Blue and White will bounce back to face off against Concord (3-10) at the Waco Center on Tuesday October 8
th at 7pm.
