Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers hosted the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State falling in three straight sets (25-23), (25-12) and (25-15). GSC attacked early matching point by point in the first set before exerting their energy for the second and third set.
Glenville would get their only lead of the set with an early 3-2 lead with a service ace by
Karlei Shaver. GSC would continue to battle with Yellow Jackets as they would gain their first two-point lead at 11-9. The Blue and White continued to fight as the entire set would be a point by point battle with a 23 all match.
Jezaray Clark-Casto had the first solo block for the Lady Pioneers following another by Shaver. The Yellow Jackets forced a Lady Pioneer timeout at 24-23 before taking the match 25-23.
The Yellow Jackets sustained their momentum into the second set gaining the early 10-3 lead. WVSU continued to lead by at least eight throughout the set before taking the set 25-12. Shaver would have six of the seven Blue and White kills in the set.
In the third and final set, the Blue and White attempted to comeback early in the set trailing 3-2 before the Yellow Jackets increased their lead by ten with 14-4 overall score. The Lady pioneers would have a seven-point return before falling 25-15.
Shaver would notch a double, double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Skylar Mace followed behind with another seven kills.
Hannah McKown and
Kenzie Johnson notched 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
GSC returns to the court tomorrow afternoon at 1pm to square off against Golden Eagles of University of Charleston in the Waco Center.
