Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team split a doubleheader with the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit University on Sunday from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
Game one would be a pitching duel between GSC's
Jose Rodriguez and WJU's Payton Faris.
Both teams went scoreless up until the seventh inning. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead as Lucas Rawlins singled scoring Colin Caven and Chardale Folks both scored.
Those two runs would prove enough for the Cardinals to win the game as they defeated GSC 2-0.
Glenville State tallied just one hit and committed one error while Wheeling Jesuit had five hits.
Tyler Phillips had the lone hit for GSC.
Jose Rodriguez pitched 6.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four batters.
Game two saw the Cardinals take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Wheeling Jesuit then added to their lead in the top of the third as they scored two runs and took a 3-0 lead.
Glenville State first score came in the third inning as
Tyler Phillips singled scoring
Shane Talvacchio as they pulled within two runs, 2-1.
The Pioneers then knotted the game up at 3-3 in the fourth
Carter Boswell hit a two RBI single scoring
Colby Werry and
Zach Bacon.
Glenville then went on and added three more runs off of four hits in the fifth as they defeated the Cardinals in game two of the afternoon, 6-3.
Glenville State tallied 13 hits while Wheeling Jesuit finished with five hits.
Carter Boswell went 2-for-4 with two RBI's while
Tyler Phillips went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Tre'von Smith had two RBI's while
Colby Werry finished with one RBI.
Jesse Weathers earned his first victory on the mound as he went the entire contest allowing three runs on five hits and six strike outs.
Glenville State (6-14, 4-4) will return to action on Wednesday, March 27
th when they travel to Salem University for a doubleheader with the Tigers.
